Our Objective
Term: 2019 to 2024
Budget: 12,900,000.00 EUR
The Project
This is the website of the “Upgrading of Quality Infrastructure in Africa” project (BMZ PN 2019.2043.8) which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany’s national metrology institute.
Our objective is to support the Pan-African Quality Infrastructure (PAQI) platform and its respective institutions in their efforts to promote economic integration in Africa through the effective and efficient implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.
We cooperate with our partners at all levels (international, continental, regional and national) of quality infrastructure to develop a system which supports and enhances the quality, safety and environmental soundness of goods, services and processes. Moreover, in Africa, we support quality infrastructure to ensure that our partners will be able to fully reap the benefits of the AfCFTA in the future. Our implementing partners are the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Pan-African Quality Infrastructure (PAQI) organisations (AFRAC, AFRIMETS, AFSEC and ARSO). We cooperate with different organisations and countries to strengthen all pillars of quality infrastructure (accreditation, metrology, standardization, conformity assessment and technical regulation) and to provide integrated solutions for quality.
